About
Hi, I'm William Lyons.
I make video games, specializing in writing and gameplay engineering.
I'm a software engineer at
Volley, where I'm currently working on their game Song Quiz for Amazon Alexa. Previously, as an intern at Volley, I worked on programming, gameplay design, and writing for the official The Price is Right game for Alexa.
In 2022, I graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences, concentrating in Writing for Games with a minor in Computer Science.
In writing, I specialize in interactive storytelling, my time studying it and practicing it turning into some online interactive narratives you can find on
Lyons Link such as my climate change, time, and choices-focused narrative
epilogue for humanity and my interactive suggestion-driven story
Puzzle Detective.
Further combining writing and game design, in 2022 I released
Case Files, a mystery tabletop roleplaying game, which focuses on collaborative storytelling and mystery solving.
While at Volley, I've worked on helping design and develop new gameplay mechanics and experiences for Song Quiz players, and worked on the game design, voice user experience, and voice over lines for their games Price Tag and The Price is Right.
I've been making games since 2015, working primarily in the Unity Engine, as well as creating games using Godot, Typescript (through Volley's proprietary engine), Phaser, Unreal Engine, and MonoGame.
My programming experience starts in 2014 with JavaScript, Python, and HTML, but since then I've become fluent and most confident in C# and Typescript, as well as being comfortable with C++ and Java.
On this site, you can find my
Portfolio, which has my work in writing, programming, and game design.
